It’s important for a model to keep the pictures in their book or portfolio current. Every time you get new pictures either from test shoots or tear sheets you’ll add them to your book.
You only want to keep current pictures in your book. As a general rule of thumb a current picture is a picture that is less than six months old. So if you have pictures older than six months you might want to look into shooting again soon. You want to keep your book looking fresh. Styles and fashions change every season so even the clothes you’re wearing in some of your pictures can make the pictures look “old”.
Often times your agent will let you know it’s time for new pictures, but remember your agent may have many models they work with and if you are in a busy agency they can’t focus all their attention on you. So, when it comes to updating your book you might have to take some initiative. The way I look at it, if I’m tired of looking at the same old picture chances are my agent and clients as tired of looking at them too. So when it’s time for your book to get a” tune up”, what should you do?

If you love following the latest trends in couture fashion, Italian handbags, and designer shoes, then chances are you’d love to be a model. Many people like Police officers, Doctors, Fire Fighters, or Flight Attendants wear a uniform to work. A models “uniform” is style and fashion, and I think that’s great, however this can lead to a big challenge: a terribly crowded and unorganized closet. I can admit my weakness is shoes; I love my high heels, boots, mules, peep toes, sandals, pumps, sling backs, kitten heels, wedges, and the list goes on. I have so many shoes and I’m always buying more so getting organized was vital.
Organization in your home life will carry over into your work life. I have some great advice for getting organized so you can focus on modeling and not the mess…

A question I am frequently asked is, “What are the top agencies?”
Some of the biggest and most prestigious names in the modeling industry are: Elite, Ford Models, Q Models, Boss Models, Storm, Action Agency, IMG, New York Models, LA Models, Wilhelmina Models, NEXT Models, DNA Models, Trump Models, & Marilyn Agency.
This is a list of the big agencies that have represented top models such as Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, Heidi Klum, and Kate Moss. The list isn’t in any particular order (and, I know I listed more then just 10). Many of these agencies have more than one office. Elite for example has over 30 offices worldwide. Next agency has offices in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and Milan. Although these are top agencies, bigger isn’t always better…

I recently volunteered my time for a charity event called “Photoshoot Phor Phamily”. Hundreds of photographers from around the country were in town attending an annual wedding photographers convention called WPPI. One of these photographers organized this charity event where for a small fee attendees from the convention could shoot professional models, in designer gowns and tuxedos, out in a private country club setting. All of the proceeds were then donated to the charity to help out families in need. Continue reading Charity Photoshoot

There are several different kinds of modeling scams out there. It appears that more and more criminals are using the internet to search for victims. In a recent scam the criminal put a posting up on a popular modeling industry website. The posting invited models to attend a “Model Search” and “Free Test Shoot”. The models who responded to the posting (via email) were given a date, time, and location for this model search / test shoot.
As it turned out, the location was a hotel room… Continue reading New Modeling Scams
